Cardiff Athletic Bowls
Please find attached a list of Bowls Etiquette drawn up by Mr D Phillips and passed by the Club Committee.
Bowls Etiquette
1 – Don’t move (opposite end) when a player is on the mat.
2 – Do not walk past the rink when a player is on the mat.
3 – Stand behind the mat when not bowling.
4 – When changing ends, walk as close to the centre as possible to avoid putting off bowlers on the next rink.
5 – When opponents head, stand behind their skip (it’s the opponents head as soon as your teams bowl has stopped).
6 – NEVER applaud lucky bowls. Player bowling a “lucky bowl” should acknowledge to opponents.
7 – Do not complain about lucky bowls – they equal out over the season.
8 – Never call an opponent’s bowl. “go on, knock us up” should never be said!
9 – Leave the head to the thirds to decide number of shots (unless help requested by third)
10 – Skips - Involve the whole rink.
11 – Be vocal when a team member has bowled a good wood.
12 – NO-ONE EVER comes to bowls with the intention of bowling badly. BE SUPPORTIVE.
13 – Don’t be afraid to ask questions (time the questions right) we are all here to enjoy the day and take part. Help the less experienced bowlers to understand building a head.
14 – Be courteous to everyone.
15 –Be careful with your language, particularly when Ladies are playing.
There are a lot more – Experienced bowlers should be passing these on during a game. We are all here to have fun. This is a gentleman’s / lady’s game. BE A GENTLEMAN / LADY
